La Croseta is a beautiful, restored stone cottage in La Vallée de la Dordogne Lotoise with ample space to accommodate large families, or those who like to vacation with friends. The house offers a comfortable haven from which you can explore the Dordogne Valley and the gorgeous uplands of the Quercy region.

View of Patio

La Croseta is located in La Cisque, a small, peaceful hamlet surrounded by rolling farmland and walnut orchards. It is close to the ancient market town of Martel, with the larger towns of Souillac and Brive close by. It is served by the Aéroport de Brive-Vallée de la Dordogne (12 km) with direct flights from London City, and the larger airports of Toulouse (180 km), Bergerac (100 km) and Limoges (100 km). And for those driving, the house is within 8 km of an exit from the E9/N20 motorway, offering convenient access to the start of your holiday.

The House

La Croseta (Occitan for “small cross”) is named after the old stone cross that guards the entrance to the house. Featuring a beautifully furnished sitting room, a generous dining area, a full kitchen, and a games room, the house has space for relaxing and enjoying the company of friends and family. The stone terrace at the front of the house offers sunlit peace for enjoying your morning coffee, and the back garden is perfect for lazy summer afternoons by the private swimming pool, or an evening of dining al fresco under the wisteria-draped arbor. The thick stone walls serve as a reservoir of cool temperatures during the hot Southern French summer, but the wood fired stove makes the house a pleasant place to be on the occasional chilly evening. Our out of season guests will also be grateful for the central-heating. With two full bathrooms and five bedrooms, the house can comfortably accommodate 8 people. In addition, the sofa bed in the games room downstairs can be put into service as a double bedroom should you need accommodation for 10.

The Area

La Croseta is situated at the corner of three French departments (Lot, Dordogne, and Correze), and lies amidst the famous towns of the Périgord region such as Sarlat-le-Canada, Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne and Rocamadour. While not quite so well known, the small nearby towns of Carrennac, Collonges-la-Rouge, Domme, Le-Roque Gagneac, Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, and Turenne are all included in the official listing of the “Plus Beaux Villages de France”. The area’s warm weather and beautiful rivers have been a magnet for people across the ages. The famous caves of Lascaux with their Paleolithic paintings that have stunned visitors since the time of their discovery in 1940 are also close by.

The view from La Croseta

The Dordogne River and its smaller tributary, the Vézère, offer fun for everyone. A day spent canoeing past the incredible cliff dwellings of Les-Eyzies or the castles that dot the region will be unforgettable. Enjoy a visit to the Jardins du Manoir d'Eyrignac or the famous gardens of Marqueyssac with incredible views of the Dordogne Valley.  There are plenty of other outdoor activities such as fishing, walking or cycling on the many paths and trails that crisscross the beautiful countryside. The nearby Souillac Country Club offers one of the few 18-hole golf courses in the department.

French cuisine is renowned across the world, and the delicacies of the Périgord region have been central to the cause. Foie gras, truffles, duck and goose are the local specialties and the frequent markets offer a wonderful range of local produce and the wines of the Cahors region. While an aperitif made from walnuts may sound bizarre, it is yet another expression of the French genius for creating flavors and tastes.
